Reports this month focus on local news, but the major discussion regards aviation news.

  • Multiple Segments: Radford reports on Colganl Flight 3407 which crashed in Clarence on February 12. All 48 passengers and one person on the ground were killed. An investigation is being launched to determine the cause of the crash, although it is suspected the weather, aircraft itself, and the piolet are all partially to blame. Buffalo News interviews victims families to get an inside look on how they are feeling and what theya re doing to cope.

March

Continuing from the previous year the major focus of reports this month focus on the economy. Due to the recession couponing has taken off.

Segement : Buffalo News discusses coupons and the act of couponing. Radford relays where one can find coupons and how to use them, Buffalo Niagara has the third hightes coupon use in the nation, but other areas are quickly catching on, and so are retailers. Radford discusses how retailers have realized customers are not willing to pay full price.

April

Last April Radford and Buffalo News has discussed Buffalo's green initaive following Earth Day. This April, the focus remains on the enviornment.

  • Segment: Radford follows up on Kennedy Jr. (son of Bobby Kennedy) who has visited Buffalo to speak on the enviornment and the importance of protecting it at Canisius College. Radfordrecaps this event and discusses how Kennedy Jr. calls out the Bush administration which worked to eviscerate 30 years of environmental law.
  • April 21: Radford hosts a segment on the Flight 3407 lawsuits that victims families are psuhing.

May

Digressing back a couple of months, Radford provides viewers with updates regarding Flight 3407's crash. These updates focus on the familities impacted by the crash as well as the political side to this. Since the crash Radford reports how families of crash victims have been working tirelessly to advocate for improvements in federal aviation safety. In Washington these families lobby congress and the FAA. This has led to serius [aviation] industry opposition as federal regulators struggle to implement a sweeping aviation law.

  • Clifford Law analyzes Flight 3407 and the preliminary information that the piolets "likely failed to maintain the minimum safe airspeed." Their research indicates this crash could have prevented.
  • Important Note: Buffalo News recieves a statement from Colgan Air and photos from the wreckage and The National Transportation Safety Board published an animation of Flight 3407's moments before it crashed.

Radford discusses local festivities and the relation to the economy. Specifically, Radford focuses on Lewiston which will be hosting their annual jazz festival unlike other cities. Radford explains why other cities have chosen not host the festival - the reason being the economy. People are are choosing to not go out and spending money and major sponsers have pulled back their finacial support. Lewiston however is hosting Jazz festival in an attempt to help the local economy by drawing people out and getting them into local buisnesses.

Local political news regarding the village of Lewiston which will have a new mayor soon. Radford reports on how the current mayor, Richard Soluri, is retiring. This will be a major shift in the town as the current mayor has sat for 16 years and he was well liked by locals. According to Radford, he was a down to earth man according to many locals. Buffalo News sits down with the mayor to reflect on his time in office, how he got involved in politics, as well a his future plans.
