Freshmen are pretty important people at Saint Bonaventure. The university has set a aside a whole week for your orientation to college life and in addition, there will be several meetings conducted by the Women’s Association for your benefit.
During the first two weeks, you will meet your big sister, who has a special interest in your welfare during your freshmen year. Perhaps you have already met her in a letter, or at her home. If not, you will have a chance to become acquainted at the Women’s Association Tea to be held on September 18. Your big sister will be happy to answer any questions you may have and will help you solve any problems that come up throughout the year.
One of the first things you will notice at Bonaventure is that the men have a more rigorous Freshmen orientation than women. They wear dinks, have special ties and are bound to certain rules of behavior for the first months of school. As freshmen women, your orientation will consist of four meetings covering the different aspects of campus life. Your are bound by the following traditional rules, originally set up for the men, but adapted for the women in so far as they too are freshmen and the rules do not interfere with their conduct as freshmen ladies:
1. Freshmen must wear as all times on campus a dink and a neat and legible sign (of white cardboard, at least 6”X6”) with her first and last name printed thereon in letters at least two inches. This shall be worn at all times and in plain view on campus, except in the Chapel.2. Freshmen must not use the Devereux Archway, the center path across campus, or the main or right hand entrances to De La Roche Hall. The entrance nearest the Athletic field is for all freshmen.
3. Freshmen must greet Priests, Professors and all upperclassmen and women according to title (Father, Professor, etc.)

4. Freshmen must memorize all school songs and cheers, names of Student Senators, officers of the Women’s Council, concise history of Saint Bonaventure University and the know the principles of Saint Francis.5. Freshmen must pay initiation fee of $5.00 immediately to the treasurer of the class after his election. 1/5 of all this amount will be returned to the Treasurer of Freshmen class after his election.
6. Freshmen cannot smoke on campus, except in women’s lounge.
7. Freshmen must support all student activities.

2. Freshmen must wear at all times a shirt and a collar plus the regulation “Dink and Tie”. The “Dink and Tie” will be obtained from the Student Senate. He will also wear a neat and legible sign (of white cardboard, at least 6”X6”), with his first and last names and major printed thereon in letters at least 2” high. This shall be worn at all times and in plain view, except in Chapel.

4. Freshmen must have a haircut not exceeding one inch. *
5. Freshmen must not use:

9. Freshmen must know and memorize:

12. Freshmen must pay initiation fee of $5.00 immediately to Treasurer of Student Senator at registration. 1/5 of all this amount will be returned to the Treasurer of Freshmen class after his election.
13. All day-hop freshmen must observe all freshmen rule on campus.
14. Freshmen must support all student activities.
These rules should be in effect and enforced to the letter within a 50 mile radius of the University. Infractions of them will result in a trial before a student court. The student courts have at their disposal several penalties varying with the magnitude of the infractions. These penalties are approved and sanctioned by the University.

9. Freshmen must know and memorize:

12. Freshmen must pay initiation fee of $6.00 immediately to Treasurer of Student Senator at registration. 1/6 of all this amount will be returned to the Treasurer of Freshmen class after his election.
13. All day-hop freshmen must observe all freshmen rules on campus.
14. Freshmen must support all student activities.

| I included this section because it stated what the University stands for. The adoption of a motto such as this could be one of the reasons the freshmen rules were dropped in the next school year. |

The purpose of Saint Bonaventure University as a Catholic institution is to train the “whole man”. The various curricula recognize the student as an individual created in God’s image and likeness, whose temporal goal is a Christian life and whose eternal goal is union with his creator. Students are educated to grow as American citizens and as Christian men and women, intellectually, socially, and morally. The maximum development of the student’s particular talents is the goal of the University, whether the endeavor be in the school of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education or Theology. Within this framework, Saint Bonaventure University tries to instruct young men and women in their free Christian heritage, to nourish their minds, to sharpen their critical judgment and to develop their capacity for effective action.
