The biggest peace movement
event in the
St. Bonaventure area was the nationwide moratorium or "Peace Day". This was first
proposed
in 1969, by the New Mobilization Committee to End War
in Vietnam. St. Bonaventure decided to participate in the day and,
according to the Courier Express (10/15/69) was the only school in
Western New York to cancel classes. In place of classes there were
workshops, rallies, memorial services and other anti-war events. This
was a way to get students and faculty members to participate together in a
constructive action, working and praying for peace. This did not mean
that the University was officially opposing the war or for any particular party; it was simply a day
for peace. The Peace Day was describe as a big success in the
Bona Venture paper. |
