Opposition to the Vietnam War came in all
shapes and sizes. While St. Bonaventure was not in the national
spotlight, students here were nevertheless leaders in the peace movement in western New York. The year 1969 brought about a number of events
on the Bonaventure campus. Dr. Spock, a nationally known pediatrician
and peace advocate, came in October of 1969 to speak to the Bonaventure
community. There were rising tensions throughout the war between SBU
students and the ROTC. There were peaceful protests on and off campus
and also public displays against the draft. Nonetheless, St. Bonaventure alums did serve in Vietnam and some died. The links on this page
