1952 and 1956 Elections
In 1952 and 1956, Dwight D. Eisenhower (R) and running mate, Richard Nixon ran and won the presidential elections. In 1952, they ran against Adlai Stevenson (D) and his running mate, John Sparkman. In 1956, Stevenson ran again with a new running mate, Estes Kefauver.

1960 Election
John F. Kennedy (D) and running mate, Lyndon B. Johnson, campaigned against Richard Nixon (R) and running mate, Henry Cabot Lodge in the 1960 presidential election. The election was relatively close; John F. Kennedy carried 22 states while Nixon carried 26. Regardless, Kennedy won with more electoral votes than Nixon, 303 to 219. On November 22, 1963, Kennedy was assassinated after only serving three years of his term. Johnson would be sworn in immediately, becoming the 36th president of the United States.
