The Veteran's Memorial was dedicated on October 31, 1987, as a tribute to the memory of those who gave their lives for the defense of our country. Major General John Mitchell was the speaker at the dedication. Originally the memorial was to honor individuals who served during the Vietnam War, but it was decided the memorial would also include the Korean War, World War II, and Afghanistan.

The memorial's original location was between Devereux Hall and the Post Office. It replaced the World War II memorial, and was funded by the St. Bonaventure Reserve Officer Training Corps graduates' donations, the National Alumni Board, and the University. In 2000, to make room for the Donald F. Kenney Museum and Art Study Wing addition to the Quick Center for the Arts, the memorial was moved to its current location near the Reilly Center's west entrance. The memorial was rededicated on June 3, 2000.
