The Arrival of the Friars in Western New York, p. 16

The Depression years weren’t a good time for building programs, but funding was found to build Hickey Memorial Dining Hall in 1930.  The Friedsam Foundation provided the resources to build a new library in 1938.  In 1948, just at the end of his term, Father Tom was able to see construction begin on of one of his greatest dreams, Christ the King Seminary, now Francis Hall.

The Charter of St. Bonaventure University (1950)

Continued development of the curriculum during the 1930’s and 1940’s supported another of Father Tom’s dreams--the creation of a Franciscan University.  Middle States approval and the 1929 amendment to the charter were major steps towards this.  His continued efforts and those of his successor, Father Juvenal Lalor, OFM, came to fruition on July 21, 1950 when a further amendment to the charter created St. Bonaventure University.
