The Arrival of the Friars in Western New York, p. 17

The post war period saw student enrollment climb over 1,000 for the first time.  By the 1960’s it exceeded 2,000 and climbed over 2,500 in the following decades.  As campus numbers increased additional buildings were added to satisfy their needs and the extracurricular activities available to students expanded.

Dormitory space was a major concern.  Temporary wooden barracks were built in the immediate postwar years.  They were replaced by Robinson-Falconio, Shay-Loughlen, the Garden apartments and the Townhouse complex.  A Friary, now Doyle Hall, was built in 1960 to house the Franciscan community on campus and replaced in 1985 by a new Friary.  Plassmann Hall and the Murphy Professional Building were built to accommodate academic needs, while Hopkins Hall provided administrative space.  The Quick Arts Center provides classroom, art display and performance space.  The Reilly and Richter Centers are used for intramural and intercollegiate athletics, fitness and student organizations.
