The Arrival of the Friars in Western New York, p. 15

During this administration substantial changes were made in the educational structure.  Summer and extension programs were added during the 1920’s, with an emphasis on teacher training.  Women first attended classes at St. Bonaventure through these programs, though they would not be admitted as day students until 1942.  In 1924 St. Bonaventure was added to the approved list of colleges by the Association of Colleges and Preparatory Schools of the Middle States and Maryland .  The charter was amended in 1929 to add Masters and Doctoral level programs to the curriculum.  In 1931 the high school program was eliminated to accommodate the increasing number of college students.

Very Rev. Thomas Plassmann, OFM (1879-1959)

This was the era of the St. Bonaventure railroad.  Probably the shortest of shortline railroads in the country, it carried coal from the mainline to the heating plant.  Father Tom liked to say that his railroad might be the shortest, but it was just as wide as all the rest!
