The bidding on the $2 million Friary project began on February 18,1960 in New York City.  Bids were opened by Very Reverend Celsus Wheeler, OFM, Provincial of the Franciscan Order.    The friary chapel was constructed with respect to both the simplicity of life, as well as, the deep symbolism of faith.  Brother Cajetan Baumann, OFM, was the Architect for the University Friary and James King & Sons, Inc. was the construction company. The mosaics in Queen Mary's Chapel and at each of the altars were executed by Paule Nolans of Belgium. The altars were executed by Montecatini at Carrara, Italy of various types of marble.
