"For those who administer and teach here, this building will be the center of far-reaching Catholic Action," the Rev. Valentine Long said at the dedication exercises of the new $2,000,000, 100 room Friary. He delivered the sermon at the Solemn Dedication Mass celebrated by the Very Rev. Celusus Wheeler, OFM, Provincial of Holy Name Province who also officiated at the exercises. Along with Father Wheeler were the Very Rev. Brian Lhota, OFM, university president, and the Rev. Neil MacDonald, OFM, guardian of the friary.

"Its completion culminates a dream of some 30 years, the building will be a haven of privacy for the Franciscans scholars and teachers who live within its walls, enabling them to enhance the position of the university by their lives "in holiness and learning,'" Father Long added. The Franciscan priests and brothers stationed at Saint Bonaventure University had lived in Devereux Hall, a student residence building, until the new Friary was constructed.
