The Arrival of the Friars in Western New York, p. 9

By this time several additional friars had joined the Franciscan community in western New York, and they began to spread their influence throughout the region.  They were given St. Patrick’s parish in Buffalo, with Father Sixtus as pastor.  The parishes in Towanda and Dushore in Pennsylvania were also added to their responsibility.

When St. Bonaventure opened in 1859, only three Friars were available to take on the first class, the rest of them conducting their work outside the immediate area.  The original class was small, perhaps only 15 members, an appropriate arrangement for the staff on hand.  The first advertisement for the College appeared in 1860 and describes the course of study and costs of attendance.
