1st house Friars stayed at while in Ellicottville

Shortly after settling down in Ellicottville, the Friars took over the Church of St. Philip Neri as well as a house to use as a monastery until a permanent one was built in Allegany. Bishop Timon left them in charge of the mission in Ellicottville and the surrounding territory.

At that time, Father Pamfilo was in charge of the erection of the first building on campus.  It was finished in August of 1858, and the friars then moved from Ellicottville to Allegany.

Within the first year of being in the United States, Fr. Pamfilo also established St. Pacificus Church, the parish at Humphrey. (below) Its first congregation consisted of 15 parishioners.  The Friars were now saying Mass in the villages of Olean, Randolph, South Valley, Cuba, Allegany, Chapelsburg and Chipmunk.  It is thought that they may have opened a school in Ellicottville.  In 1858, St. Mary of the Angels Church was erected in Olean thanks to Fr. Pamfilo.
