St. Bonaventure's role during World War II and the accommodations that were made for the returning soldiers

The Army and St. Bonaventure

In 1941 the United States Army took over certain parts of the St. Bonaventure University campus.  They built barracks and even fired howitzers on  campus to train the officers that would soon be going to World War II.  It was mandatory for all students to take a military science class during World War II. The barracks after world War II were turned into classrooms  and then eventually sold and turned in to a hotel.  The gun shed and barracks were torn down to make room for more buildings on campus.  Many other events were going on at campus during World War II Army was not the only organization to recruit on campus during WWII though.  The Navy had a branch of their VN-1 program on campus.  This program was for freshman and sophomores who were under the age of 20.  Upon graduation from Bona's would receive a commission in the Naval Reserves.
