A native of Bradford Pa., Fr.
Dominic accepted the interim presidency during a time of scandal after
Dr. Robert Wickenheiser's
resignation. In March of 2003, Fr. Dominic was appointed interim president. Many thought that Fr.
Dominic would eventually be named as president but he asked to be
removed from consideration for the office and, in the fall of 2004,
Sr. Margaret Carney was inaugurated as the 20th president, the
first woman to hold the office. In May of 2004, at the 13th Annual Good
News Awards Dinner, Fr. Dominic was given the award for community
service. He
had stepped up to the role when called upon in early 2003 and was able
to restore faith and confidence in the University through his strong
and humble leadership.
Fr. Dominic received a bachelor's degree magna cum laude from St. Bonaventure in 1967. In 1970 he received a bachelor's degree in theological studies from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. and in 1971 he received his master's in theological studies from the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Fr. Dominic received his doctorate with distinction from the Divinity school at the University of Chicago in 1979. From 1979 until 2002 he was a faculty member at Christ the King Seminary and the Washington Theological Union, while maintaining his contacts with SBU by teaching in some summer sessions. In 2002 he returned to St. Bonaventure and was a member of the faculty as a professor of theology.
