Norbert Rappl

 

Norbert Rappl graduated from St. Bonaventure in 1952. When he started ROTC in 1948, it was mandatory for all male students to serve for at least 2 years. When the Korean War started he continued to advance in ROTC and eventually served active duty. Upon release Norbert Rappl joined the Army Reserve and served for 33 years, eventually attaining the grade of Major General, Commanding the 98th Division. General Rappl believes this to be one of his biggest achievements. He is one of the first inductees into the Hall of Fame at SBU because of his successful career. His other awards Include the Distinguished Service Medal, highest peacetime award, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NYS Distinguished Service Medal. One piece of advice General Rappl gives to ROTC students in college is to “Throw your heart into it and you’ll get the most out of it.”
