Edward Downey

Edward Downey graduated from St. Bonaventure in
1977. Downey was a member of one of the first freshman classes
(1973) without mandatory participation in the ROTC program.
ROTC members were nicknamed the “Screamers” by the rest
of the student population for the boisterous morning workout
routine. Downey was also
a founding member of the orienteering club at St. Bonaventure
University and a nationally ranked participant. He joined the
Army JAG Corps and served in the military for over 30 years.
Downey saw military action across the globe including: Europe,
Grenada, Nicaragua, and Iraq.
Downey reached the rank of Colonel and served on General
David Petraeus's staff during the Second Gulf war
