St. Jospeh's Oratory is surrounded by three different memorials. The Father Mychal F. Judge Memorial is located to the left of the Oratory, the Father Robert M. Stewart Memorial is located to the right of the Oratory, and a 9/11 Memorial is located behind the Oratory.

Father Mychal Judge was the first recorded fatality of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. He was a chaplain with the New York City Fire Department. Judge received a degree from St. Bonaventure University in 1957. The 9/11 Memorial is also dedicated to him.

Father Robert M. Stewart Memorial





Father Robert Stewart was an associate professor of Theology until 1997. Father Bob was active in the academic, spiritual, and social life of St. Bonaventure. He was Director of the International Center for Secular Franciscan Studies and a member of the Formation Directorate of the Holy Name Province. Father Bob was diagnosed with cancer in the 1990s, and authored the book, Making Peace With Cancer: A Franciscan Journey, about his experience. Father Bob passed away on September 1, 2001.
