Carol A. Schumacher is Wal-Mart Stores Inc. vice president of investor relations, overseeing the company’s global communications. She handles stakeholder engagement on environmental, social and governance issues. She joined Wal-Mart in October 2004 and served for one year as vice president of corporate affairs, responsible for reputation management programs. She is Wal-Mart’s primary spokesperson to analysts and investors.
She served as senior vice president for corporate affairs of Kerr-McGee Corp., responsible for government relations, investor relations corporate communications, community affairs and advertising.
She served as vice president of public relations at The Home Depot for three years. Her public relations and marketing career includes 17 years with Burson-Marsteller, Cohn & Wolfe and Edelman.
Schumacher, a New Jersey native and ’78 Jandoli School grad, has a master’s degree in communications from Glassboro State College in New Jersey.
She is a past president of Bonaventure’s National Alumni Board and completed two years on the university’s board of trustees. She was named alumna of the year in 1998.
She is a member of the National Investor relations Institute and the Arthur Page Society for senior communications professionals. She serves on the advisory board of the Franciscan Holy Name Province in New York City. Schumacher advocates for diversity and mentoring and has been instrumental in establishing events for developing future female leaders within Wal-Mart.
Schumacher is married to Bob Kelly and is mother to Garrett Kelly, a freshman at Rogers (Ark.) High School.
