50th Anniversary Celebration

In 1949 St. Bonaventure University established its School of Journalism where it would eventually evolve into one of the top programs in the nation.  Fifty years later the university commemorated those involved in the program through a year-long celebration during the 1999-2000 academic year.  This site will give you a glimpse into the planning of this celebration, what kind of events were involved, and the overall atmosphere of this very proud moment in St. Bonaventure’s illustrious history. You'll find various documents, photos, and pamphlets relating to this celebration that have been digitized and transferred to this site for the enjoyment of Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and others.

Committe Members: Catherine Jandoli, Charles Osgood, and Dean Lee Coppola (Dean of JMC at this time) were Honorary Co-Chairs with Gerard (Jerry) and Eileen Monaghan acting as the Committee Chairmen. Faculty involved were Mary hamilton, Alan Mackenzie, and Basil Valente O.F.M.

Planning

The initial planning for the celebration started in October of 1998, well over a year before the celebration was going to take place. This document below is one of the first written to begin the planning of this year-long celebration and gives you an idea of the logistics involved in such a task.
