A look at the compelling story and =
work of=20
      Rural Studio, a unique architectural program at Auburn University =
under=20
      the direction of the renowned Samuel Mockbee. In a time when =
architectural=20
      attention focuses on large, glossy urban projects and palatial =
homes, the=20
      Rural Studio provides an alternative of substance. In addition to =
being a=20
      social welfare venture, the Rural Studio is also an educational =
experiment=20
      and a prod to the architectural profession to act on its best =
instincts.=20
      By giving students hand-on experience in designing and building =
something=20
      real, it extends their education beyond paper architecture. And in =

      scavenging and reusing a variety of unusual materials, it is a =
model of=20
      sustainable architecture. The work of the Rural Studio has struck =
such a=20
      chord - both architecturally and socially - that it has been =
featured on=20
      Oprah, Nightline, and CBS News, as well as Time and People =
magazine.
