in the Mezzanine Gallery of The Regina A. Quick Center for the =
Arts at St.=20
      Bonaventure University.

Foit-Albert will lecture on her experiences in =
China that=20
      led to the creation of the exhibition and the writing of a book, =
=93China=92s=20
      Sacred Sites,=94 in a public lecture at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 11, =
at The=20
      Quick Center.

Foit-Albert, founder and president of the =
architectural firm=20
      Foit-Albert Associates in Buffalo, frequently travels =
internationally to=20
      study and provide advice about the historic preservation and =
adaptive=20
      reuse of buildings in parts of the world experiencing rapid =
economic=20
      development.

In 1995, she and photographer John Valentino =
traveled with a=20
      Chinese professor to many historical sites in the People=92s =
Republic of=20
      China including Beijing=92s Forbidden City and the Shibaozhai =
Temple, a=20
      12-story wooden structure that clings to a towering rock wall =
along the=20
      Yangtze River. The photographic exhibit takes visitors to these =
and other=20
      sites, revealing philosophical tenets that hold lessons for those =
involved=20
      in the design and appreciation of buildings.

There is a fundamental difference between Chinese =
and=20
      Western religious architecture, Foit-Albert asserts in her book. =
In the=20
      West, builders inspired by the biblical mandate to take dominion =
over the=20
      earth have designed towns in which architectural elements visually =
assert=20
      ownership over the landscape. In China, by contrast, where man is =
seen as=20
      an organic part of nature, buildings merge with their sites.

Foit-Albert=92s talk is free and open to the =
public.

The photo exhibition will run at The Quick Center =
through=20
      April 25. The Quick Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday =

      Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Museum admission is =
