      expressed in a survey of several hundred students of various =

      wanting to know more about family owned business.</FONT></P>

      of The Family Business Club will be on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 12:30 =
p.m. in=20
      Dresser Auditorium located in the John J. Murphy Professional =

      Carol Wittmeyer, assistant professor of management sciences, and =
Don=20
      Swanz, associate professor in the School of Business, along with =
students=20
      David DiNardo, =9210 and Pasquale Rago, =9210 decided to create =
this club for=20
      students to better understand aspects of family =
businesses.</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, =
sans-serif"><BR>=93Family=20
      controlled firms are the predominant ownership model for =
businesses on the=20
      planet, so all students interested in business should know about =
family=20
      firms because if they don=92t own one, they will work for one =
and/or their=20
      clients will be family firms,=94 said Wittmeyer.</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><BR>The =
goals of the=20
      club are to bring together St. Bonaventure students who are in =
family=20
      firms as well as those who desire to start their own. The club =
members=20
      will provide high quality programming, networking opportunities =

      resources to help students start or grow a business.</FONT></P>

March, the=20
      club members plan on taking a trip along with the Management Club =

      family firms in Boston, Mass. Also, they are arranging a local =

      funded through the efforts of Carl Paladino, a St. Bonaventure =

      Department. He was intimately involved in building the leadership =

      Fuqua School of Business in 2004 to teach leadership and =

      readings of the texts of Franciscan history, he has written =

      (1205-1239); History, Sources and Hermeneutics,=94 is a sampling =
of his=20
      essays on early Franciscanism.</FONT></P>

heart of the=20
      struggles and tensions within the early Franciscan movement, =
contending=20
      narratives vied with each other for a hearing and a following =
within=20
      medieval Franciscan history.</FONT></P>

      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">That =
struggle was=20
      essentially between two different visions of Franciscan life. The =
earlier=20
      minorite vision of Franciscan life was sensitive to and critical =
of the=20
      socio-economic realities operative in the Spoleto Valley at the =
turn of=20
      the 13th century; these friars desired to live with and be at the =
service=20
      of the minores of their time.</FONT></P>
      <P></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Another =
vision=20
      preferred a more institutionalized form of the charism, stressing =
the=20
      apostolic (and predominantly clerical) usefulness of the =
Franciscan order=20
      to Church and society through the excellence of its preaching, =
acuity of=20
      its learning and radicality of its asceticism. These two versions =
of the=20
      Franciscan charism, while complementary expressions of the vision =
of=20
      Francis, were not easily reconcilable or compatible with each =
other. Both=20
      represented spiritual visions; but the social formation and =
location of=20
      the friars from which each of these visions originated were not =
the same,=20
      thus conditioning their contrasting perspectives on the forma =
vitae and=20
      explaining at least some of the differences and resulting=20
      struggles.</FONT></P>
