      member to receive the Faculty Appreciation Award posthumously. Fr. =

      who died in 1994 at the age of 70, served as the director of =

      novices before starting his teaching career at St. Bonaventure in=20

      investigator and later as a behavioral therapist, William J. =

      Ph.D., saw many people struggling with mental illness and problems =

also saw was=20
      that most people who work in the mental health system and receive =
help=20
      from the system function within a framework that separates faith =
beliefs=20
      and virtues from psychological health.</FONT></P>

recently, the=20
      majority of mental health educational and training programs have =
deemed=20
      faith and character to be irrelevant, if not harmful, to =
psychological=20
      wellness. This is out of step with the beliefs of the general =

      said Elenchin, visiting assistant professor of sociology at St.=20
      Bonaventure University.</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">=93I was =
amazed that=20
      most of the therapeutic interventions were void of character =
traits or=20
      openness to the role of faith, and that so many of the key =
theorists wrote=20
      antagonistically about religion,=94 Elenchin said.</FONT></P>

motivated him to=20
      delve into the research and pursue his doctorate, setting the =
