      ranging from 1 million to 5 million people descending on =

      it=92s going to be a great experience. Most have never been to =
D.C.=20

      Fredericksburg: Captain Sewell Gray of the Sixth Maine Infantry=94 =
appears=20
      in this year=92s volume of Fredericksburg History &amp; Biography, =
an annual=20
      journal published by the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust. This =
year=92s=20
      volume =97 volume seven =97 was released in =
mid-December.</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Mackowski =
co-authored=20
      the article with Kristopher D. White, a historian who works at=20
      Fredericksburg &amp; Spotsylvania National Military Park, which=20
      encompasses four major Civil War battlefields in central Virginia. =

      Mackowski works at the park one weekend a month as a battlefield =
guide and=20
      interpreter.</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Their =
article focuses=20
      on an officer, Sewell Gray of Foxcroft, Maine, who served with the =
Sixth=20
      Maine Infantry. Mackowski and White based their article on =
Gray=92s diary,=20
      which recently came to light.</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">=93Sabbath =
and a=20
      lovelier day never overtook a soldier,=94 Gray wrote in his diary =
on May 3,=20
      1863. Hours later, he was killed while his regiment stormed a =
heavily=20
      fortified Confederate position known as Marye=92s Heights in =
Fredericksburg.=20
      However, Gray=92s unit, the Sixth Maine, successfully captured the =
position,=20
      although their success was short-lived. The Federal advance was =
halted=20
      just a few hours later after the Battle at Salem Church. The =
action was=20
      one of several engagements related to the Battle of=20
      Chancellorsville.</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">=93After =
Gray=92s death,=20
      his diary had been recovered by someone in his regiment, and it =
was passed=20
      down through his family. His great-great-grandnephew has it =
today,=94=20
      Mackowski says. =93He was kind enough to provide a transcript, =
which Kris=20
      and I then used as the basis for the article. We did additional =
research=20
      to flesh out Gray=92s story even further. He was an interesting =
guy to get=20
      to know.=94</FONT></P>
      <P><FONT face=3D"Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, =
sans-serif">Mackowski=92s father=20
      lives in the area in Maine where members of Gray=92s regiment were =
recruited=20
      into service.</FONT></P>

      life growing up and going to school in the same towns where some =
of Gray=92s=20
      comradescame from,=94 Mackowski says. =93It was important to me to =

      scholar on Argentina and professor of history at St. Bonaventure=20
      University, has written a new book about Argentina=92s government =

      Party and Popular Mobilization, 1916-1930=94 examines =
democracy=92s first=20
      appearance in a country that appeared to satisfy all the criteria =

      political development theorists of the 1950s and 1960s identi?ed =

      crucial. This experiment lasted in Argentina from 1916 to 1930, =
when it=20
      ended in a military coup that left a troubled political legacy for =

      sometimes it fails and it is important to try to discover =

challenges=20
      previous interpretations that emphasize the role of clientelism =
and=20
      patronage. He argues that they fail to account fully for the =
Radical Party=20
      government=92s ability to mobilize widespread popular support. =

      compares the administrations of Hip=F3lito Yrigoyen and Marcelo T. =
de Alvear=20
      he shows how much depended on the image Yrigoyen managed to create =

      himself: a secular savior who cared deeply about the less =
fortunate and=20
