2006 Hellinger Award Winner- Rachel George
The Hellinger Award ceremonies moved to the Statler Towers in Buffalo for the 2006 presentations, where Arcade, New York native Rachel George was given her due.
An Honor's student, George was active with The Bona Venture, the campus radio station, WSBU, and was a part of the club field hockey team. Passionate about sports, she was an intern with The Buffalo News and the Olean Times-Herald. In addition, George was a "stringer," or freelance reporter, for The Associated Press and the Arcade Herald. She was a multiple recipient of scholarships from the Society of Professional Journalists, and after graduating became a sports writer for the Wilmington (N.C.) Star-News.
