2001 Hellinger Award Winner- David Longolucco
Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Hellinger Awards in 2001 were held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
Presented with the award was David M. Longolucco. He served as an intern with the athletic communication department, receiving the athletic department's student service award and after graduation the Pawcatuck, Connecticut native found a job as an athletic communications assistant at the University of Connecticut. Longolucco was a member of Kappa Tau Alpha and a disk jockey with WSBU. He was one of the inaugural Jim Murray Memorial Foundation, which awarded scholarships to promising students in the journalism field through a national essay contest. Longolucco was one of seven winners around the country.
