1999 Hellinger Award Winner- Greg Licamele and Corrie S. Spike Carter
The 1999 Hellinger Awards, which took place at The Pratt Mansions in New York City, again saw co-winners of the honor. It was the first time that the ceremony was scheduled for dinner rather than lunch.
Greg Licamele attained his degree with a secondary concentration in political science. He was the editor in chief of The Bona Venture when the paper one the Associated Collegiate Press National Pacemaker Award and originated the Block Out Hunger campaign that raised a significant amount of money for University Ministries. Licamele served as a sports information intern and a graphic designer for the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts in addition to internships off campus with USA Today Online, USA Today Baseball Weekly, the American Association of University Professors and The Catholic Sun, the weekly diocesan newspaper. After graduation, he pursued a master's degree from George Washington University.
Corrie Spike earned her degree with a secondary concentration in marketing. She held various positions with The Bona Venture and was a member of Kappa Tau Alpha. Her internship experiences included public relations intern for the Career Center on campus, as a columnist with The Muse (a regional monthly literary magazine) and a marketing intern with Burson-Marsteller, a global public relations and communication firm located in New York City. Following graduation, Spike found a job with Dudnyk Advertising and Public Relations in Horsham, Pennsylvania.
