1998 Hellinger Award Winner- Evelyn Kinnah

Ghana native Evelyn Kinnah was the award winner of 1998, the first and thus far only black recipient of the honor. Graduating magna cum laude with a dual degree in political science as well as journalism/mass communication, Kinnah was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, Kappa Tau Alpha, and Delta Epsilon Sigma. She was also on the staff of The Laurel, The Bona Venture and served as president of the International Studies Association. Kinnah was the student organizer for the 1997 Communications Day at the university.

In addition to her extensive activities on campus, Kinnah was a legislative aide to New York State Assemblyman Paul A. Tokasz and was the winner of the Most Outstanding Intern and an award for Superior Research Paper.

After graduating early in December of 1997, Kinnah went on to Cornell for law school, focusing on international human rights.
