1992 Hellinger Award Winner- Amy Carr Wojnarowski and Michelle Maloney
1992 marked another historic day in the history of the Mark Hellinger Awards. The ceremonies, which took place at The Plaza in New York City, awarded multiple winners of the honor for the first time. Amy Carr and Michelle Maloney were co-recipients of the award. (Pictures displayed respectively).
Carr, named the Ideal Bonaventure Student upon graduation, earned terrific grades while an undergraduate student and worked in a variety of positions in the campus media, including with The Bona Venture, the Bonadieu and WSBU, the campus radio station. She interned with the Olean Times-Herald, the Office of Public Relations at St. Bonaventure, the University's National Alumni Board and Rochester Telephone Corp. Carr was a member of Women in Communications, Inc, Kappa Tau Alpha and the Society of Professional Journalists. After graduation, the resident of Fairport, New York attained jobs as a public relations assistant for Wanda Miller and Associates and in internal communications for Rochester Telephone while writing free lance articles for Rochester-based entertainment publication Revues Magazine.
Michelle Maloney was the other co-recipient of the award in 1992. She served as a news director, newscaster and a disk jockey at WSBU. She was also very involved with The Bona Venture and The Laurel, serving in a number of editing positions for both. A member of Women in Communications, Inc, Kappa Tau Alpha and the Society of Professional Journalists, Maloney held internships with WIVB-TV in Buffalo and BOCES Cable Channel 6 in Olean as an undergraduate. A native of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, she joined WJJL-Am 1440 in Niagara Falls after graduation.
