The 1975 Hellinger Award Ceremony marked several very important anniversaries, and as a result the Journalism Department planned some extensive celebrations in creating a "Day of Journalism." For the first time in its history, the Hellinger Award ceremony wasn't held in New York City, at The Castle by the St. Bonaventure campus to coincide with the events of the weekend.
Honored with the Hellinger Award was William Reed, who graduated with the highest GPA among the journalism class. He was active with the Bona Venture form his freshman year onward, eventually serving as editor-in-chief. Reed was the recipient of a Newspaper Fund Fellowship that placed him with the Buffalo Courier-Express as well as a Gannett Newpaper Scholarship. Reed was also a member of Sigma Delta Chi, the Society for Professional Journalists and Kappa Tau Alpha. The Long Island native was named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" in 1975.
