1971 Hellinger Award Winner- Margaret Stomierowski Gould

Margaret Stomierowski from Olean, New York was designated as the winner of the 1971 Mark Hellinger Award. An employee for the Olean Times-Herald throughout her college career. She was also the recipient of the a Newspaper Fund Scholarship funded by the Wall Street Journal; as a result, she studied at Temple University before being assigned to the copy desk of The Hartford Times in Connecticut. In addition, she was also the recipient of a Gannett Newspaper Scholarship.
Serving as the editor of The Bona Venture while at St. Bonaventure, Stomierowski was heavily involved with service work as a student. She was active in the founding of the non-profit Olean Coffee House and planned on doing service work with the Peace Corps after graduation. Stomierowski was a member of Sigma Delta Chi, a student and professional journalism society and Delta Epsilon Sigma.
