Because there had not a formal winner of the Mark Hellinger Award in 1961, 1970 marked the 10th time that the award had been issued.
The winner of that award was Christine A. Krysiak from Parma, Ohio. Attending St. Bonaventure on a full scholarship, Krysiak was associate editor of The Bona Venture, worked with the campus radio station and wrote for and edited Bonagram, an alumni newsletter. She was named to the "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities."
Krysiak worked over the summer prior to her winning the award for the Catholic Universe Bulletin, the weekly newsletter for the Diocese of Cleveland. She went on to get a job with the Tonawanda News, serving as Women's Editor.
