Another Bonaventure student named to the "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" was the winner of the 1969 Mark Hellinger Award. Pamela Cheles, an Albany native, was given the Hellinger due to her involvement with The Bona Venture, where she served, at various times, as reporter, feature editor and member of the photography staff. She was also active in the drama group at Bonaventure, being named "best actress" two consecutive years and holding several leading roles for productions while also directing publicity.
Cheles worked for the Knickerbocker News in her hometown for three consecutive summers prior to winning the Hellinger, working her way up from copy girl to feature writer. After graduation, she went to graduate school at Ohio University, attaining an academic average of 4.0 as she worked toward her master's degree.
1969 marked the 10th anniversity of the Mark Hellinger Award, although there had not been a formal winner in 1961.
