1968 Hellinger Award Winner- Michael P. Zavadil
Michael P. Zavadil from Smithtown, New York was designated as the winner of the Hellinger Award in 1968. He served as editor-in-chief of The Bona Venture, was president of the campus chapter of Sigma Delta Chi (a professional journalistic society), was a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma (a national honor society) and was president and concert-master of the concert band on campus. Zavadil also pursued a minor in in philosophy and studied history and political science as an undergrad. Prior to winning the award, Zavadil worked as a reporter and editorial assistant for his hometown paper, The News and after leaving St. Bonaventure pursued a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University.
By 1968, the Hellinger Award Committee had expanded to 44 members.
