Thomas More Friary
Home

The Thomas More Friary was established for a small community of Friars previously living in the Ockham House.  The community consisted of four friars who were actively involved in campus ministry at the University--Rev. John O'Connor, O.F.M., Rev. Dan Reilly, O.F.M., Rev. Ken Walsh, O.F.M., and Rev. Gary Ketcham, O.F.M.  It also served as a summer residence for a number of visiting friars who continued their studies at St. Bonaventure.  Father John O'Connor said the new friary did not signify a break with the St. Bonaventure Friary, but was an outgrowth that it provided greater accessibility of friars to campus and community residents.

Father Dan Reilly on the name of the Friary:
"St. Thomas More was a lay Franciscan who exhibited four basic qualities of saintliness: holiness, humanism, hospitality, and humor.  St. Thomas More is the patron saint of Catholic college students.  He stood for truth throughout his life and because of his high regard for truth, died for his faith."
