Minutes of the Board of Trustees
Minutes of May 26, 1870

Utica  May 26 /70

At a meeting held at the house
of Mrs. Nicholas Devereux 50 Elizabeth
St. Utica N.Y. Mrs. N. Devereux
acting President it was moved
by Thomas B Devereux seconded
by Father Michael that the
Very Rev. Father Charles Provincial
of the Order be elected trustee
Carried unanimously
  Then Father Charles state that
he received letter from Father
Emiliano of Boston stating his
wish to resign.  On his motion
seconded by Father Michael
his resignation was accepted>
re letter on file on motion of
Father Michael seconded by Mrs.
N. Devereux Father Maximus
President of St. Bonaventure's
College was elected Trustee

to fill vacancy caused by resignation
of Father Emiliano of Boston.
It was moved by Mrs. N. Devereux
and seconded by Thomas B. Devereux
that Very Rev. Father Charles
Provincial of the Order be elected
President of the Society.  Carried
unanimously.
It was moved by Thomas B. Devereux
seconded by Father Michael that
a proper book be prepared the
minutes of former meetings copied
and then that a proper memorial
life and services of Bishop Timon
to the Order.  Also of life and
services of Nicholas Devereux.  Also
of services of Father Pamfilo first
voluntering in Rome to come in
America.  Also that Nicholas
Devereux did not make in his

will, died unexpectedly before
perfecting it, and that to the
honor of the Devereux family
all promises were carried fully
and perfectly as he had desired
by Mrs. N. Devereux
  Then it was moved by Mrs. N. Devereux
and seconded by Father Charles
that Father Pamfilo be desired
to prepare an account on the
history of the Allegany College
from his coming to his leaving
the Country.  Carried unanimously
It was moved by T.B. Devereux and
seconded by Father Michael that
Mrs. N. Devereux be requested to
write to Father Pamfilo
Carried unanimously.
The meeting on motion then
took rest for two hours

The meeting called to order by very
Rev. Father Charles.  The minutes
of the morning meeting read and
approved.  Father Charles stated that
he desired to improve the College
to put up necessary building and
on motion of T. B. Devereux seconded
by Mrs. N. Devereux that a Committee
of 3 be appointed consisting of
Fathers Charles Michael and
Maximus to enlarge the College
and if necessary for that purpose
to contract debt and to mortgage
the College and property not
to exceed ten thousand dollars.
Carried.  Also by T. B. Devereux
seconded by Mrs. N. Devereux that
the Building Committee take
charge of all other business
for the following year that may

come up and report next yearly
meeting unless they should
desire to report and call a
meeting sooner for that purpose
and the Secretary is desired to
call a meeting if desired by one
or more of the Building Committee
It was move by Father Charles
and seconded by T. B. Devereux that
an effort be made to secure
from the Legislature an act
to incorporate this society so
it can hold property in
different parts of the state
and also property out of the
state for the benefit of the
Society.
   On motion of Mrs. N. Devereux
the meeting then adjourned

for one year unless called together
again by Building Committee.

Father Emiliano letter
    City Point Sq. Boston March 31 1870
        Very Rev. and Dear Father
Both of your letters concerning the
trusteeship of Allegany and expressing
your desire to settle matters thre
were duly received.
I regret very much my inability
to be present with you on the
first Sunday of April which
you have appointed.  At this
season of the year the distance
and the great pressure of my
engagements and duties here
render my journey quite out
of the question.  I can only

only then to meet your wish
to fix things, as you say, most
respectfully tender the resignation
of my relations as trustee.
In so doing permit me to add
that I feel very sensibly the
separation from those associated
with me, most especially the
excellent family of Devereux,
who, from my first arrival
in this country have in so many
ways testified their warm
attachment to all that concerns
the welfare of our Order, and in
making this resignation
thus known to you, in some
measure you may estimate
the sacrifice made by
